Bio Graphy Of Lakha Sidhana
In 2004, Lakha Sidhana, who derives his surname from his village in Rampura Phul segment of Bathinda, was facing at least 25 cases of kidnapping, loot and murder. Now, three cases under the Arms Act remain pending as he got off in the others, mostly for lack of evidence.
He was once considered close to Akali leader Sikander Singh Maluka, who was MLA from Rampura Phul. Maluka has denied any involvement with his criminal activities.
In 2012, Sidhana unsuccessfully contested assembly election from Rampura Phul on ticket of PPP led by Manpreet Singh Badal, who later merged it into Congress and is now the state’s finance minister.
As chairman of Malwa Youth Federation, an organisation floated by him, Sidhana recently made headlines when his supporters smudged English language on signboards on highways, demanding that Punjabi be put on top.
During his stay in a Faridkot jail for a case of vandalism registered over the smudging of boards, Sidhana was further booked when he went live on Facebook from the barracks. In the video, he urged farmers to shun the practice of burning paddy straw that causes pollution!
